The Reverend Anthony Lees-Smith is Vicar of Evington. He is also Dean of the City of Leicester from January 2020.
Anthony came to St Denys in 2012 from a parish in Cambridge, but has local roots in the county. Having grown up in Mountsorrel, he studied Italian and French at Cambridge, spending a year with the Anglican Chaplain in Rome where he began to explore his vocation to ordained ministry. After a brief spell as an accountant in Oxford, he retrained as a primary school teacher and taught for several years in a large city-centre school in Peterborough. He studied theology in Durham for three years and then in 2009 went back to Ely Diocese to be ordained and take up a post at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Arbury, North Cambridge. Anthony is married to Wendy and they have two daughters, Erica and Hilary. He is also a member of the country’s only fully ordained singing ensemble, Octave.
The Reverend Nigel Rostock joined the staff at St Denys as full -time curate on 1st July, when he was ordained by the Bishop of Leicester at the Cathedral.
Nigel has been training for ordination at the Queen’s Foundation in Birmingham while living in Leicester. He and his wife Alison are really looking forward to being part of St Denys Church and getting to know the people of Evington. Before receiving his call to ministry, Nigel was a secondary school teacher, primarily teaching Religious Education and Philosophy.
Nigel is also part of a motorcycle club called God’s Squad, which has a mission to bikers. He enjoys riding, has recently ridden Route 66 and travelled across Europe on his bike. He says, ‘One of the reasons I enjoy traveling, is that you come across some really interesting people on the way, and have some fascinating conversations, many of which seem to relate to faith. So I look forward to having many interesting conversations over a coffee, during my time at St Denys.’
